San Mauro and the neighbourhood...
SAN MAURO PASCOLI
San Mauro Mare owes its name to the municipality to which it belongs, San Mauro Pascoli, a town situated only 7 Km away in the hinterland, well known for its exceptional talent in the footwear industry and hometown of the great poet Giovanni Pascoli, whose houses, Casa Pascoli, and Villa Torlonia are open to visitors.
ROMAGNA
The Riviera of Romagna, is an area for tourism and fun, but it is also a land of art, history, nature, tradition and good cuisine.
The hinterland of Romagna will therefore act as a background to your holidays with its abundance of towns full of history and art, nature reserves, amusement parks, thermal baths and also festivals, fairs, typical dishes.
Besides satisfying you from a touristic and cultural point of view, Romagna can also and especially satisfy your sense of taste with typical specialities which are its worldwide flagships : tortellini, tagliatelle, and the product of Romagna “par excellence”, the famous piadina (or piada), which can be tasted in every spot of the Riviera, stuffed or accompanied by traditional salamis, hams and local cheeses (squacquerone and formaggio di fossa (literally pit cheese)), to be tasted with a good glass of Sangiovese di Romagna wine.
EVENTS AND EXCURSIONS
The very efficient accommodation facilities of San Mauro Mare will animate your evenings with live music, dances, street and square festivals, tournaments and sport events, theme evenings dedicated to children.
Do not miss: the “Festa della Conchiglia” (seashell festival), (which coincides with the now famous “Notte Rosa” (Pink Night) of the Riviera), the firework displays in the summer evenings, the fish “rustide” (sardines and other fish cooked on grills and served with piadina in the streets) with folk music, the “Paese dei Balocchi” (Toyland) evenings for the smaller children.
For the lovers of history, art and culture, the Tourist information offices organize coach tours every week to the most famous historical and artistic towns in the surrounding area.
For those who are keen on cycle tourism, road bikes and mountain bikes, the hinterland of Romagna offers plenty of organized cycle tours which last from a few hours to a full day.
A perfect threesome: holiday-sport-culture.
